BIOL 3110 - Population Ecology F,W (3-1) [0.50]

An exploration of the structure and dynamics of animal and plant populations. The first part of the course will focus on demographic characteristics of populations and simple models of population growth and natural regulation. The second part of the course will concentrate on a variety of population processes, including predator-prey interactions, spatial dynamics, and disease-host interactions, and consider how these processes affect population dynamics. A quantitative approach emphasizing the use of mathematical models, graphical analysis, and statistics will provide the basic conceptual framework, which will be illustrated by selected case studies. Comment :
Ok course. The concepts are not particularly difficult to understand but I did not find them particularly interesting. There is an emphasis on population models which can be a bit dry. Weekly tutorials are a giant pain as there was not enough time to complete the assignment in groups. The final group debate was also more work than it was worth. Boulding is a great prof though and is genuinely interested in the subject matter and in general. I would recommend the textbook as she takes most of her material from it.

Pretty chill course, content isn't extremely difficult to understand go to lecture listen to prof, tutorials aren't THAT necessary. Utilize the practice exams that the prof posts super helpful for midterms!

Very laid back. The professor is very nice. The content is not difficult. You don't need to attend the labs but you need to hand in your tutorials at the beginning of the lab hour.
