I was really skeptical about taking this class, but actually enjoyed it! Prepare to examine what you think about pretty much everything to do with animals, and also prepare to defend yourself in seminars. The prof is really in his element when he talks about Welfare, and he will listen to you disagree so long as you have evidence! As the prof may warn you, this is not a class to expect 90's in.

Really interesting course. Took this one online and I enjoyed it. You learn a lot about animal ethics, theories about whether or not animals can feel etc. Took it DE. There's quite a few short papers to write but they weren't bad. Midterm online, Final in class, online discussions/participation and a few short papers make up the course. I also liked that there was one TA so all the written assignments were marked by the same person. Easy to do well for the DE version anyway.
